About
I'm Ash Logan, a designer, program manager, and entrepreneur dedicated to sustainable design and empowering communities through impactful solutions. Currently based in Ottawa, on the traditional and unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples, I blend my love for creative problem-solving with a commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
Currently, I'm completing a contract role as a Technical Soft Goods Specialist supporting the Directorate of Soldier Systems Program Management within the Department of National Defence, managing the technical lifecycle of Canadian Armed Forces operational handwear and headwear. The work involved writing performance specifications, producing and editing production drawings, evaluating vendor samples and lab testing against strict compliance standards, drafting Statements of Work for prototype procurement, and providing direct technical guidance to manufacturers through onsite plant visits. I didn't expect my career to take this turn, but it's given me a rigor around technical specification, compliance, and manufacturing quality that I can now bring into every part of my design practice.
At Osei-Duro, I grew from a marketing assistant to leading the apparel and textile design team. In my role as Lead Designer, I guided the design process for seasonal collections, ensuring that everything from trend research and fabric selection to garment construction, aligned with the brand's vision of sustainability and style. This journey helped me develop a deep understanding of how to lead cross-functional teams while keeping the design process rooted in integrity and innovation.
I'm proud of the work I did with the Osei-Duro Foundation's Reruns Program, where I managed skill-building workshops for women in recovery in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. This role allowed me to combine my design skills with a hands-on approach to community development, which was deeply rewarding.
As the founder of Riinu Studio, I've committed myself to producing textile products that prioritize sustainability, local materials, and minimizing waste. This entrepreneurial venture allows me to apply my expertise in pattern drafting, garment construction, tech pack development, and sustainable design on my own terms.
My academic work includes co-editing Fibre Stories, a publication born from my research with the Fibreshed Field School project. This research explored the intersections of regional textiles and ecological design, and has been a key part of my efforts to balance creative practice with scholarly inquiry.
I'm always seeking new opportunities to combine my design background with my passion for sustainability and community engagement. Whether through fashion, program management, or research, I'm driven by a desire to create meaningful change through design.
